Seeking Without Attachment

Whether one is attached or detached, one is seeking. As long as one is conscious, one seeks.

That which one desires should not be desired.
That which one longs for should not be longed for.
That which one craves should not be craved.
That which one covets should not be coveted.

It is OK to seek that which does not place a burden upon oneself if one does not possess it.

If you seek something so badly that you are in pain and discomfort without it, you should not seek it.
(unless of course you will die without it, otherwise... DO NOT SEEK IT!!!)

Appreciate the Pursuit

a rule you should adopt

you want something, regardless of the degree that you want it, expect the opposite
but, you can not anticipate the opposite every time
so, never be surprised or frustrated when the opposite happens
it's only meant to be that way
time flows in one direction forward through time
the pieces are placed

the problem lies in control
we want to have x amount of control, but in reality we have x-a amount of control, and we get frustrated
that we can not have the amount of control that we want
this causes frustration, frustration leads to anger, anger leads to stress

we want to try our best to control
how does this not lead us into conflict
we are trying, we are putting forth effort
how do you accept your level of control
how do you know what your level of control is at any given time?
how do you accept the way things are without letting that acceptance reduce your ability to control?
how do you exert effort in your world without experiencing frustration in relation to that exertion?
how do you persist, and push forward against an obstacle, without experiencing frustration or stress?

pursue things, but never expect to obtain anything you are pursuing
if you do obtain something, hold on to it, but never expect that you will be able to keep holding on to it
appreciate the chase, appreciate the journey, appreciate life
appreciate something when you have it, but do not be sad when it is no longer there

if you want something, and it is in your power to make it yours, it does not necessarily mean that you should do so

you seek multiple interests in a day, part of one's stress comes from deciding what interests to pursue
another part of one's stress comes from the actual pursuit of those interests

pursue interests, appreciate the pursuit, but do not be disappointed when your pursuit does not work out the way you wanted it

A Look at the Word Expect

What is it to expect?

There is a saying that says, “Always expect the worst”
What about always expect the best

How about always expect nothing or, never expect anything.

What does expectation do?
Expectation creates a sense of anticipation.
This anticipation creates a sense of nervousness.

When there is expectation, there is no relaxation.

Expectation is attachment.

Expectation comes from desires.

When you desire, you expect that you will feel a certain way, you strive for that sensation and expect that you will experience that sensation.

To accept and to expect. They sound similar and seem like opposites.

If you accept, then do you expect? If you expect, then do you accept?

A Visualization

This figure represents equilibrium. It is a flat plane. There is nothing acting on it to cause it imbalance. You are at peace. There are no forces acting on your mind.

This figure represents when desires start pulling and tugging at you, and pulling you in different directions. Your mind starts to become wavy, uneasy. It is not longer in equilibrium. Your equilibrium has been disrupted. You are not at peace.
